MANCHESTER, N.H., June 11, 2012 News of fake IDs from a website in China is spreading like wildfire. In a story published June 8th in USA Today, David Huff, a senior special agent in enforcement for Virginia's Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control, was interviewed. The article states “According to Huff of the Virginia agency, it has always been easy for the untrained eye to be fooled by fake IDs. The difference is, Huff said, that the new generation of forged IDs is "good enough to fool the trained eye."
In both government and commercial environments, when used with the i-Dentify™ ID-150 Card Authentication Scanner or other supported passport readers, AssureTec’s fraud detection software is the only software on the market that has been proven to reliably and automatically detect these new sophisticated fraudulent documents.
AssureTec’s software is deployed worldwide, in airports and seaports, border control stations, immigration counters, DMVs, casinos and in other retail applications. US Government entities such as DHS, GSA, and other agencies regularly call for AssureTec products by name because our responsive and experienced engineering team stays on the cutting edge and provides new features and forensic tests with every product update to maintain the highest level of assurance for our customers.
Many other products on the market can scan the barcode that is present on most drivers' licenses, but unfortunately, most barcode scanners simply verify that there is data present on a card, not that the card is valid. AssureTec solutions, on the other hand, authenticate documents using multiple forensic tests to validate security features specific to the type of ID presented.
Even border and forensic document inspectors, who undergo substantial training in the Questioned Document Examination (QDE) process, often do not have enough time to truly inspect each document that passes through their station. In testimony before the Senate Finance Committee several years ago, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported authorities were able to use fake IDs in 18 out of 18 cases to enter the country — despite qualified forensic document inspection. Incidentally, when those same IDs were checked with AssureTec’s software, they were all detected as fraudulent.
In these times, when as USA Today states, “Anyone with an Internet connection and $75 to $200 can order their personalized ID card online from such companies as ID Chief.” best practices require proven solutions for detecting these sophisticated fraudulent documents whether it be for high security access control, liquor enforcement, or fraud prevention.
AssureTec, the world’s leading automated ID document screening and authentication software platform and document database, has the ability to authenticate any one of over 2,500 different worldwide identity document types including machine readable and non-standard identity documents. AssureTec’s software and document database is imbedded in the world’s leading access control, credentialing and commercial ID fraud solutions.
