Flemington, NJ. – February 13, 2012 - The Secure Workers Access Consortium (SWAC™) today announced the deployment of AssureID™ by AssureTec Technologies, Inc. of Manchester, NH, to instantly authenticate the identification documents SWAC applicants present when enrolling for membership at a SWAC Processing Center.

SWAC, a unique cooperative security program developed in response to the critical security issues posed after 9/11, helps to ensure that contracted workers who require access to designated secure areas, sensitive facilities, or work sites are known, well-trained, and have a threat-free history in accordance with federal standards. An industry-wide cooperative program, SWAC represents a growing regional community of facility owners, labor organizations, and contractors who voluntarily assure the identity and criminal background of their workers.

To validate them, SWAC applicants must present government issued identification credentials such as a social security card, driver’s license, passport, visa, and/or other federal, state, and local government IDs during their initial enrollment process. AssureID’s fraud detection technology, now at the World Trade Center SWAC Processing Center, indicates whether these credentials are authentic or fraudulent. Additionally, AssureID identifies the issuer, the type of document, captures all of the biographic and documentation information, and analyzes the features of the document to determine in seconds whether a document is valid.

AssureID’s authentication technology is used to screen enrollment documents for the Transportation Workers Identity Credential (TWIC) and most of the US Government HSPD-12 credentialing and secure access programs.

“We are pleased to cooperate with SWAC in enhancing the security of their Secure Worker Program by the addition of AssureID document screening technology,” Dr. Bruce Reeves, CEO of AssureTec noted. “AssureTec believes that SWAC is leading the way toward a cooperative industry wide interoperable credentialing paradigm which allows the free safe movement of workers between projects and employment opportunities.”

More than five years in operation, SWAC is a trusted and proven personnel assurance program for sensitive worksites throughout the NY/NJ Metro Area including the World Trade Center complex, NY/NJ airports, rail and bus terminals, bridges, and other transportation facilities to ensure contracted workers are known, and threat free. Transportation agencies such as the Port Authority of NY & NJ (PANYNJ), Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), New Jersey Transit (NJT), and The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) have adopted SWAC as the regional standard for access control to sensitive facilities, critical infrastructures and key national resources.

Manchester, NH - February 6, 2012 - News of the rise in fake ID use among underage individuals is pervasive and global, from Oregon to Liverpool, multiple stories are published weekly. From January 26, 2012 on KEZI ABC News, “Generally, over the course of two weeks I might see 60,” said OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commission) investigator Mark Jeanig. “This lot is almost double and they’re all from the Eugene area. Two of the liquor stores turned in 50 or 60 IDs each, so, definitely an upswing in fake IDs.”

The effect on businesses of serving or selling to underage individuals is severe, fines and penalties (thousands of dollars or loss of license) can be mitigated by having a rigid security tool to evaluate the IDs of prospective customers.

Establishments can reduce or eliminate human error and protect themselves from fraud by having an ID verification solution in place and establishing company policies and procedures that mandate use every time an ID is presented.

On Friday, January 27, 2012 an article titled “Evanston’s liquor board considers closing down The Keg” states, “Migon’s (bar owner) lawyer, Todd Stephens, blamed increasingly sophisticated fake IDs for the bar’s failure to stop underage drinkers. “It’s no different than trying to police a good counterfeit hundred-dollar bill,” Stephens said. “These things are perfect now.”

In rigorous field environments, the AssureTec ID verification solution is the only product that has been proven to reliably detect these new sophisticated fraudulent IDs. Many other products only scan the barcode, and unfortunately, barcode scanners simply verify if there is data present on a card, not if the card is valid.

Thousands of AssureTec solutions are installed and operating globally, and have been selected time after time for the most discriminating security applications involving critical borders, high profile chemical and nuclear facilities as well as commercial enterprises to evaluate prospective customers, employees and visitors.

AssureTec’s ID verification solution can recognize over 2,500 different ID types and in six seconds or less will extract all available data fields, run forgery detection tests, and inform you whether the ID is valid. In addition, the AssureTec Team continuously monitors the actions of the fraudulent document companies, and in every update, new features and tests are added to maintain the highest level of security for our customers.

Product Partnership with AssureTec Technologies Allows Users to Authenticate Visitor Identification Such as a Driver’s License

Needham, MA. – October 18, 2011 – EasyLobby, the industry leader in secure visitor management solutions, has partnered with AssureTec Technologies of Manchester, NH to offer AssureTec’s ID authentication system as part of EasyLobby’s suite of visitor solutions, allowing users to scan driver’s licenses for authenticity and accurately capture the information and the photo.

The AssureTec ID-150 product is capable of reading both sides of a driver’s license simultaneously and automatically comparing the data on the magnetic strip or 2D barcode on the back of the license and the information on the front. It extracts all available data fields, as well as the photo, and within seconds runs multiple forensic tests specific to that license. All current issue and most previous issue licenses are supported from all U.S. states, Canadian provinces and many licenses from around the world.

“Many of our customers want to accurately and quickly capture visitor data and the photo from a driver’s license as well as to authenticate the license to make sure it is valid,” said Howard Marson, EasyLobby CEO. “By using AssureTec’s patented technology, our customers can now do both within seconds using a single piece of equipment.”

Bruce Reeves, CEO of AssureTec said “We are happy to be part of EasyLobby’s visitor solutions and having a role in improving public security by eliminating the use of counterfeit documents and false identities to surreptitiously enter facilities. Our new generation of ID authenticators can be extremely useful in detecting counterfeit documents or modifications to otherwise valid documents.”

The ID-150 authentication reader is available immediately from EasyLobby in two different options. One option includes the driver’s license scan to capture both the information and the photo, and the other includes the scan with authentication to be sure the license is not a counterfeit. The ID-150 is sold in conjunction with EasyLobby’s Secure Visitor Management (SVM) software. Pricing is dependent on configuration. Call for details.

News of fake IDs from a website in China is spreading like wildfire, especially in college town communities. In a story published Sunday, October 16, 2011 in The New Hampshire Sunday News, Assistant U.S. Attorney for New Hampshire Al Rubega said these new counterfeit IDs are “better than any we’ve seen”. He went on to say “It’s a real profound concern both from a law enforcement and national security perspective”. Eddie Edwards, the NH Chief of Liquor Enforcement and Licensing was quoted in the story that “These new sophisticated counterfeit IDs from China are virtually impossible to detect”.

In both government and commercial environments, when used with either the AssureTec i-Dentify™ ID-150 document scanner or other supported passport scanners, the Assure-Alert fraud detection software is the only software on the market that has been proven to reliably and automatically detect these new sophisticated fraudulent documents from China. Assure-Alert software is deployed worldwide, in airports and seaports, border control stations, immigration counters, DMVs, casinos, car rental companies, and in other retail applications. US Government entities such as DHS, GSA, and other agencies regularly call for software solutions by AssureTec.

Many products can scan the barcode that is present on most drivers’ licenses, but unfortunately, most barcode scanners simply verify that there is data present on a card, not that the card is valid. Assure-Alert, on the other hand, authenticates documents using the same forensic methods used by highly trained and experienced enforcement officers. Assure-Alert automatically performs multiple forensic tests to validate security features specific to the type of ID presented in just a few seconds.

Most laypeople, including bank tellers, casino cage workers, and store clerks, who are put in the position of ensuring that a customer has a valid ID, are not trained to determine the authenticity of the variety of IDs they regularly encounter. Even border and forensic document inspectors, who undergo substantial training in the Questioned Document Examination (QDE) process, often do not have enough time to truly inspect each document that passes through their station. In testimony before the Senate Finance Committee several years ago, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported authorities were able to use fake IDs in 18 out of 18 cases to enter the country — despite qualified forensic document inspection. Incidentally, when those same IDs were checked with the Assure-Alert software, they were all detected as fraudulent.

In these times, when procuring a fake ID is as easy a buying loaf of bread, best practices require proven solutions for detecting these sophisticated fraudulent documents whether it be for high security access control, liquor enforcement, or fraud prevention and red flag rules compliance.

About AssureTec Systems

AssureTec (assuretec.com) is the world leader in automated ID document authentication. Built upon patented technologies, AssureID™ can assess the authenticity of virtually any ID document in circulation, with or without machine-readable content such as magnetic stripes, bar codes or smart chips, allowing deployment of automated risk-based identity management solutions immediately without first requiring new enrollment. In accordance with FIPS 201 specifications, the system assesses the authenticity of a document without operator intervention, typically in less than five seconds, and can be used by operators with little-to-no document forensic training, significantly reducing training and operating costs and customer inconvenience. Applications include commercial identity fraud detection (i.e., banking, retail, gaming), secure enrollment (i.e., HSPD-12 PIV enrollment, driver license, passports), secure access control (i.e., border management, nuclear/chemical/high-value facilities), and age-restricted access/sale (i.e., bars/night clubs, controlled-substance sales). The company is based in Manchester, N.H.
